Amandla Stenberg shined as she was honored Thursday at Essence's 12th Black Women in Hollywood at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Stenberg addressed a star-studded audience that included Angela Bassett, Octavia Spencer, Rep. Maxine Waters, Real Housewives Of Atlanta star Eva Marcille, and Sheri Shepherd, among others.
'I thank you for the gift of your eternal guidance, the sway in your walk that I have learned to mimic and then embody and the divinity that runs through your veins that I am so grateful to inherit.'
The Hate U Give actress continued, according to the AP: 'Sometimes it may feel like we carry a lot of weight, but it is because we have been given roots that run deep into the earth. The love and protection of our ancestors envelops us and transcends time itself. No matter what we face, we are wrapped in that protection.'
