On and off the needles and wheel

I finished the charity hats - a total of four child's size and one for an infant from the four kits, with the little dab of yarn you see in the photo all that's left. I need to wash them and send them back to Allison for delivery to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Now I'm working on another baby shower gift, a new-to-me pattern from KnittingDaily (Interweave Knits' email subscription) called Cabled Raglan Baby Sweater. What a great design; no seams to sew, top-down construction. I think this is going to be my new go-to pattern for all baby girl gifts.

I have five more gift knits queued up, one of which will be made out of the yarn shown above. I don't know what it will become yet, but I do know who it is for. It's more of that unknown black yarn that I think is superwash merino, plied with some camel-colored llama I got from Tammy Ward and a strand of fine gold lurex. That freed up another bobbin (not that I was short on bobbins), and ended my vacation from white alpaca. I really need to spin up another eight ounces of that for the farm owner, stat!

But I have another pressing yarny/knitting issue. Sock Summit is coming to Portland in August and I really want to attend at least a little bit of it; I'm anxious to be initiated into the world of knitting/spinning shindigs. But I don't knit socks! Maybe they won't let me in the doors! Then Allison at SuperCrafty.com announced a moving sale on her blog, and, well, I had to do my part to support the business of another stay-at-home mom, right? So yesterday four skeins of Tofutsies sock thread - er, yarn arrived in the mail. Now what? I read on Farm-Witch's blog that size 0 needles give her the most satisfactory sock results. I don't OWN size 0 needles, unless you count straight pins! Now I'm looking on eBay for some 2mm Addi Turbos. Yikes! Can I turn at least one skein of this thread - er, sock yarn into a pair of socks before August? Stay tuned!
Even if I can't, wild horses couldn't keep me from attending the Luminary Panel on that Sunday afternoon, the 99th anniversary of Elizabeth Zimmermann's birth. The Yarn Harlot is one of the moderators; if she's half as funny in person as she is on her blog, it should be a hoot!

I think a certifiable knitting nerd now lives at . . .
